I enjoy the tactile quality of paint which I work across the canvas with my hands. I brush, scrape and burnish the surface revealing line, value and form. A shift in value or line triggers a memory, an image and it is the emotions associated with the memory that are conveyed into the landscape I am painting.
Beginning with a ground of oil pastel and oil stick, I respond to areas that call to me as needing color, a mark. I lay down layers of color, into which I scrape and etch linear elements. Watercolor washes create interesting effects of color and texture. I enjoy the fluidity and immediacy of ideas realized on paper.
